INTREPID products were developed over many years by Scott Titus, founder of the Center for Holistic Advanced Organic Studies Ltd., located in Scott's fascination with plants and interest in gardening began in childhood when, at eight years old, he successfully grew pole beans in the crook of a black walnut tree where years of humus-rich leaf mold had collected. That experience began his lifelong curiosity and interest in why, where and how plants grow. Scott's formal horticultural education began in high school where he studied plant propagation and greenhouse technology for two and a half years. Following graduation, he earned a Certificate of Completion in Ornamental Horticulture from the Bellingham Vocational Technical Institute and became a Master Gardener through the Cooperative Extension Program of Washington State University. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture at In 1989, Scott founded his wholesale facility, Windy Meadow Nursery. He continued to explore the world of soil science and was soon producing healthy crops without using customary fungicides. He consistently grew robust plants with multiple side branches and heavy yields. Scott's wholesale customers continue to be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the plants and often comment that they are always the first to sell. INTREPID products have evolved through extensive trials at Windy Meadow, which now serves as home to the Center for Holistic Advanced Organic Studies Ltd., (C.H.A.O.S. Limited) the research and development arm of the INTREPID product line as well as the trial ground for product development.
Each year, many thousands of seedlings and cuttings from hundreds of varieties of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and bulb crops are tested and evaluated. Until recently, many of the biological ingredients used in INTREPID products have only been available to the agricultural community. C.H.A.O.S. Ltd. tests and evaluates the many beneficial and naturally occurring organisms on the market today to determine their compatibility and persistence in the environment.
