Scott's Bio
Scott Titus has been an avid gardener from an early age and worked in green houses before earning his BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Washington State University in 1984. Scott has had many great growing experiences working in horticulture around the world. Being a “Greenhouseman” in Denmark to growing Pineapples in Costa Rica, he managed 13 acres of greenhouses in California, growing foliage and 64,000 potted Chrysanthemums per week, and propagated 350,000 Poinsettias in his home state of Washington.
In 1989 he decided to combine his scientific knowledge of plants and soils and build Windy Meadow Nursery from salvaged materials from the old Washington Sate Reforestation Nursery in Bellingham Washington. That same year Scott invented the concept of incorporating pure cultures of biological inoculants in potting soil, calling it Multiple Strains Working Biodynamics™ . Within a few years he had gained a reputation for having the best annuals, perennials, and hanging baskets in Whatcom County. Soon his customers were asking to buy the special soil he was using to produce his great plants.
In 1999, Scott introduced the first Coconut based potting soil in the United States, under the brand name Intrepid Coco-Coir® Premium Potting Soil, and is celebrating ten years of being registered organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. That year, The Center for Holistic Advanced Organic Studies Ltd. (CHAOS Limited) was formed to market the unique and highly effective products that had come from years of intense research and development in the nursery. Other products followed with Intrepid Blue Ribbon Biodynamic Fertilizer™ in 2003 and Intrepid Microbesoft Compost Tea™ in 2009.
Scott takes great pride and pursues perfection in every product he manufactures and every flower that grows in his wholesale nursery. It’s this pride that encourages Scott to share his many years of experience developing sustainable nursery practices by offering them to others. Scott says, “ because we use these products every day in the nursery, they have to perform to the highest quality standards possible”. We’re excited to offer customers viable organic alternatives that are sustainable, ecologically friendly and perform better than many conventional products.
